For anyone who doesn't frequent the Blue Bunny bread thrift store on Freedom Way you are missing some great deals. They have large bags of bread for $2.75 each. I asked what was 'wrong' with the bread in the large bags and was told that they just don't have room for it all so some gets offered 'bulk'.
I have bought bread like that plenty of times and have never had a problem. I freeze it as soon as I buy it and pull out about one loaf a day (we use a lot of bread). The brands are mixed, but there are a lot of good quality ones like Nature's Own. I've also gotten Cobblestone Mills hoagie and kaiser rolls this way.
